2023 Winter School
Lecturer: Alex Beckinsale

Get ready to unleash your inner artist in this exciting three-day course designed specifically for teens! Over the course of three days, you’ll dive into the world of art and explore a range of different mediums, including drawing, printmaking and painting.
Each day of the course will provide you with the opportunity to learn from a different South Australian Artist, and spend time learning about the materials and techniques that they are most passionate about. You’ll learn more about colour with Shannon Beck, drawing from imagination with Alex Beckinsale, and printmaking with master printmaker Hanah Williams.
Important:
Please ensure your teen brings some snacks + lunch for our onsite breaks.
Materials required:
A3 sketchbook and a basic drawing kit (graphite pencils, erasers, and whatever else they have in their pencil case (please bring for all 3 days)
All other materials will be provided.

Alex Beckinsale is an emerging artist whose work is inspired by strange narratives, folklore, and popular culture. She graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) in 2016. She focuses on figurative art and portraiture, often constructing otherworldly and mysterious situations in her work. http://www.alexbeckinsale.com/ @alex.beckinsale
Hanah Williams is an Adelaide based artist, printmaking educator and graduate of Adelaide College of the Arts, UniSA and the Zea Mays Printmaking School (USA). Her practice focuses on creating unique state prints, print-based installations and using repetition as a means of understanding the human psyche. Hanah’s work delves into the realms of dreams, the human connection to the natural world and investigates the possibilities of what home is and can be. She was a printmaking lecturer at the University of South Australia for six years and teaches eco-aware printmaking workshops throughout Adelaide and regional South Australia. She is currently undertaking a Masters in sustainable and eco-aware printmaking practice.

Shannon Beck graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Visual Art from Adelaide Central School of Art. She has considerable experience working with youth, and has assisted and taught in workshops at Neo, Art gallery of South Australia. Her work focuses on colour and form, using non-representational images and mixed-media installations to create heightened visual experiences that impact the mind and body.
