For Senior Secondary Year Levels 10 – 12
Join us in Term 4 for a course specifically designed for students in Senior School Year Levels 10 to 12. This course will utilise Art Deco and Art Nouveau influences to help students to create beautiful and eye catching contemporary drawings.
Alex will take students through the intriguing history of these art movements through hands-on activities and long-format projects. This course will invite the students to explore visual storytelling using these distinctive artistic styles. They will have the opportunity to use the elegance of Art Deco’s geometric forms, as well as the organic and whimsical aesthetics of Art Nouveau.
Materials required:
A3 sketchbook, HB, 2B, 4B + 6B graphite pencils, hard + kneadable eraser, coloured pencils, charcoal, a rag or old pillow case, and 2x A1 pieces of cartridge paper for the last 2 weeks of the course.
Optional – iPad with Procreate or Sketchbook installed (or a laptop with a tablet + similar digital art software).
Please note: students will need to bring materials to all classes.

Alex Beckinsale is an emerging artist whose work is inspired by strange narratives, folklore, and popular culture. She graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) in 2016. She focuses on figurative art + portraiture, and often constructs otherworldly and mysterious situations in her work. When she is not making in her studio, Alex can often be found sketching characters from D&D campaigns, her favourite TV shows and video games.
