Lecturer: Daniel Connell

Wed 26 Jul – Wed 30 Aug  6.00pm – 9.00pm

Level – Beginners to Advanced

This course is designed for those who want to create paintings in the tradition of landscape, experimenting with various techniques and finding a unique expressive voice of their own. Designed for beginners to advanced. Students will look at other artists who have painted landscapes in a broadly expressive way and discuss the significance of representing space and relationship to space. Students will be encouraged to paint large scale and multiple works.

Materials required:
2 x oil sheet paper (as large as possible – around A1 size).

*2-3 student quality stretched canvas or primed mdf board (buy at hardware at least 5mm thick and prime at home using matte ceiling white paint.)
Daniel suggests that students consider a large scale – at least one dimension being 100 cm at least.

Acrylic paint (student quality is sufficient) – Alizarin, Warm red, Ultramarine blue, Pthalo blue, Lemon yellow, Warm yellow, and White (large tube).
Additional Suggested colours – Turquoise, Orange or vermillion, Magenta and Lilac.

Brushes – An assortment of brushes. Suggestions are at least 2-3 high quality synthetic bristle brushes. Daniel suggests ‘brights’ ( square shaped bristles, sizes around 4,8,12).

Cheaper larger brushes – 3 inches and larger are handy.

Natural Charcoal 3-4 sticks any size. Cotton rags. A palette – any water repellent portable flat surface. Jars/containers for water.

Oil paints may be used in addition to acrylic – (on top of ) but only with non toxic solvent.

*Suggestion – discuss the sizes of your stretched canvas/mdf board with Daniel in the first class before purchasing these.
