Level – Beginners
This structured course introduces participants to the basic techniques of drawing by observation. Moving from line drawings to tonal drawings, participants acquire the skills to achieve precision in their drawing and to accurately represent what they see.
Materials required:
Weeks 1 – 3: A3 sketch book, graphite pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, & 6B), hard eraser, kneadable eraser, 2 sheets of A1 cartridge paper, retractable box knife, 2 large bulldog clips, and a 45cm length of dowel (5mm diameter).
Weeks 3 – 6: 3 sheets of A1 cartridge paper, pack of medium width sticks of willow charcoal, soft charcoal pencil (4B), and a rag (or old-t-shirt).
Week 6: 1 sheet of mid-grey Canson paper, soft charcoal pencil (4B), white conte pencil, and a rag (or old-t-shirt).

Alex Beckinsale is an emerging artist whose work is inspired by strange narratives, folklore, and popular culture. She graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) in 2016.
