Join us during the July school holidays for our 2024 Teen Winter School  Intensive!

Over the course of 2 days, you will explore different approaches to drawing, painting, watercolour and soft sculpture with artists Alex Beckinsale, Carly Snoswell, Jake Yang & Holley Rentsch. Each 2-hour workshop will focus on developing your skills in different materials and techniques. You will be encouraged to creatively explore your ideas and artistic expression.

The 4  workshops are:

Fantasy Illustration with Alex Beckinsale

Embark on a creative journey in the techniques of fantasy illustration. This 2-hour workshop is designed for teens who have a passion for fantasy art and character creation. Alex will take participants through some key elements of fantasy art. Students will then spend the majority of the session creating a finished piece that combines essential illustration techniques with their own fantastical designs.

  • Students are encouraged to bring iPads if they would like to work digitally.

Sequins Samplers with Carly Snoswell

Create your own sequin sampler and learn the basics of embroidery using sequins and beads. Young artists will learn simple textile techniques and discover new ways of embellishing and adorning fabric to bring out their own individual style.

Pet Portraits with Holley Rentsch

Join Holley Rentsch in a 2 hour workshop to understand the fundamental techniques of working with watercolour. The beginning of the class will involve a thorough teaching of essential skills in using the watercolour medium. Holley will then guide students through the creation of their own pet portrait – from drawing up their own image (of their own pet, or one supplied) to applying portrait techniques and colour studies, whilst exploring their own creative approach.

Painting Techniques with Jake Yang

Join Jake Yang in a fun 2 hour painting workshop where you will create your own still life paintings using a range of techniques focusing on positive and negative shapes and collage.  You will explore different approaches to painting including observation and composition. The class will first focus on painting a range of different objects from life, then students will begin to collage the objects to create unique still life compositions.

Carly Snoswell is an artist working and living on Kaurna Yarta. She explores fandom and the creation of craft objects as an ode to particular pop-cultural phenomenon through gendered and labourious forms of craft-making. In 2012 she graduated with First Class Honours at the South Australian School of Art and since then has exhibited widely including internationally, was Co-Director of FELTspace ARI and has participated in studio residencies in Adelaide, Melbourne, India, New York, Japan and Iceland. Holley Rentsch is an Adelaide Central School of Art Graduate and multifaceted artist, living and working on Kaurna Land. Rentsch seamlessly blends the delicate world of watercolours with the bold expression of also working within the tattoo industry. With an undeniable passion for both traditional and contemporary artistic mediums, Rentsch’s artistic background began in Mildura, Victoria where she cultivated a deep appreciation for the intricate beauty of watercolour painting. Rentsch has participated in numerous group shows and an upcoming solo show, earning accolades for her ability to seamlessly navigate between the realms of fine art and body art. Rentsch’s paintings capture a snapshot of complex moments. With a focus on emotions through the use of watercolour with an emphasis on companionship and loneliness. Clashing imagery of girlhood and boyhood and the structure of gander within domestic and public places.
