Lecturer: Lucy Turnbull
Sat 18 Feb – Sat 1 Apr 1.30pm – 4.30pm (Please note: no class on Sat 11 March – Adelaide Cup long weekend)
Level – Beginners to Advanced
In this course participants will be encouraged to work quickly, making multiple sketches of the life model in relationship to an installation of objects. Each session will focus on a theme, such as form and volume, composition, geometry, scale, tone and refer to a selection of master works to develop new ways to approach observational drawing and gain insight into the construction of powerful images.
Materials required:
A2 newsprint pad (or 20-30 sheets of newsprint or similar), 4 sheets of A1 cartridge paper, willow charcoal, white eraser, cotton rag, 2 large bulldog clips or masking tape, small tube of black & white acrylic paint, paper plate or plastic tub (for paint palette) and small sketchbook (optional).

Lucy Turnbull is a lecturer in drawing and painting at Adelaide Central School of Art. She received her Masters of Fine Art from the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture (2018) and graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Art with Honours (2010). Since returning to Australia in 2019 Lucy has exhibited at Praxis Artspace, Adelaide Central Gallery and taken part in the Hill End and Sauerbier House Artist in Residence Programs. Turnbull’s interest lies in drawing from observation to record her experience of place.
