The Still and Moving Image

Opening Tuesday 9 May 2017

Adelaide Central School of Art proudly presents The still and moving image for the SA History Festival 2017. The exhibition will show works by Adelaide artist Andrew Dearman, and will be held in the School’s Teaching and Studio Building foyer 8 May – 2 June.

Dearman skilfully integrates antique photography processes into a contemporary visual art practice that is based on extensive research into art history and theory. His works in this show will build on the idea that there is a close relationship between the still and the moving image: one is always present within the other.

‘In today’s age of technology, smartphones and instantaneity, Dearman’s ambrotypes demand patience, precision, and manual handling,’ says James Edwards, Project Manager – Exhibitions. ‘Andrew has an impressive in-depth knowledge of the materials and their chemistries required to reveal his desired images.’
