On Elegance While Sleeping

Sundari Carmody, Honor Freeman, Sasha Grbich, and Kynan Tan

Paraphrasing the title of Viscount Lascano Tegui’s 1925 surrealist novel, On Elegance While Sleeping, this exhibition examines the early 21st Century phenomenon by which sleep is increasingly quantified and commodified. Fitness trackers monitor our REM cycles, tabulating and graphing this profusion of data to help us assess our ‘sleep debt’.
