Showing from 22 September – 30 October 2026
Adelaide Central Gallery is delighted to present Anna Platten’s new exhibition, My Head as a House. This will be the first solo exhibition of new work by the highly esteemed and much-loved artist in fourteen years.
Platten’s paintings are famed for their combination of carefully observed tonal realism and surreal juxtapositions; she invites the viewer into a world of entrancing detail and hallucinatory strangeness. These paintings and drawings have been distilled from a period of turbulent personal change, and as such they are powerfully cathartic and deeply intimate works, dealing with illness, bereavement, and, ultimately, hope.
In this exhibition, Platten will also make a bold leap in her practice, employing staging elements that expand the surreal worlds of her paintings outward, beyond the edges of the canvas, into the gallery, through ingenious framing and small sculptural elements.
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, and Saturdays 10am – 2pm
Opening event sponsored by Hentley Farm Wines
